In a few words, I design interfaces for people.
In a few more words, I think about why we interact with machines and explore how to guide human-machine interaction within the most elegant and direct structure possible. During the design process, I like to expand ideas as far as I can take them and then begin paring away inessential elements. When everything has been reduced to beautiful form and fluid function, when form has become function, I feel the final design has been achieved.
Most of my thought & design process is carried out with a well-chewed Ticonderoga Beginners pencil and plain ol’ printer paper. As dearly as I love my computer and Wacom tablet, my favorite tools are a near-obsession with clean, elegant design, a deep love of narrative expression and a genuine sense of playfulness.
Storiography is my ongoing exploration of photography & design-based methods for cross-media documentary storytelling. While each Storiography project has a distinct look and interaction flow, every project has three core goals: intimate, honest imagery, universally understood navigation, and depth and space for viewers to draw their own conclusions about the story. more →
