Concept, Logo & Interface Design

Fig. 1: The Sign-In Screen
If you had 10 seconds to imagine what a Twitter-based platform to enable better communication between constituents and their representatives should look like, you’d pictured a mashup of federal iconography, 90s acid punk rock colors and Hello Kitty hearts n’ stars, right?

Fig. 2: The Federal Screen
Color plays a central role on GovLuv. Three colors each denote a different level of government – blue for federal, green for state, and yellow for local. I set two shades of each government level color to separate officials from their staffers and constituents. And I set aside a fourth color – pink – for settings within GovLuv’s own interface.

Fig. 3:The Logo
I hand-drew a kinder, gentler eagle, with good ol’ pencil & paper first and then cleaned up in Illustrator. I added some hearts for friendliness, a touch of Cooper Black for old-school street cred, and a starburst for extra rockstar-itude.

In addition to the logo, I also hand-drew the icons, rules and background patterns.
